Revolutionary Vessel “Prometeo” Powered by Electro-Hydrogen Propulsion Unveiled by Green Navy
Title: Green Navy Unveils Europe’s First Electro-Hydrogen-Powered Vessel, Prometeo
In a groundbreaking development for the marine transportation industry, French company Green Navy has introduced “Prometeo” — a revolutionary vessel powered by electro-hydrogen propulsion, marking a significant step towards sustainable shipping practices in Europe.
According to Renewable Energy Magazine, Prometeo is the first of its kind in Europe to implement electro-hydrogen propulsion technology for passengers and goods transportation. By replacing traditional fuel and oil with clean energy and incorporating innovative technology systems to reduce energy consumption, Green Navy aims to create lightweight commercial vessels that are silent, odorless, vibration-free, exceptionally strong, and highly efficient.
The maritime cargo transport industry, crucial for the global supply chain, faces challenges related to environmental impact, as highlighted by technology corporation Sinay. The use of traditional shipping vessels powered by dirty energy sources contributes to air and noise pollution, water contamination, habitat disturbances, and the introduction of invasive species, as detailed by the U.S. National Park Service.
David Bartoletti, the general manager of Green Navy collaborator SECO Marine, emphasized the potential of hydrogen as an energy vector for decarbonizing vessels, stating that it provides a promising solution to address environmental concerns.
Prometeo joins a growing array of sustainable transportation solutions, including electric vehicles, hydrofoiling ships, green aviation, and hyperloop infrastructure. Green Navy CEO Charles Cardi expressed optimism about the support for Prometeo’s pioneering design and commercial applications, with major operators eager to embrace a low-carbon, low-noise, and environmentally friendly future in transportation.
Currently under construction with a planned release in spring 2025, Prometeo symbolizes a new era in eco-friendly marine transportation. The vessel’s introduction signifies a shift towards cleaner and more sustainable practices in the shipping industry, aligning with global efforts to reduce carbon emissions and protect the environment.
