Government Communication Service Unveils Strategy to Drive Innovation and Ethical Transformation Across Civil Service Staff
The Government Communication Service is set to revolutionize the way 7,000 civil service staff approach innovation in their work with the upcoming release of the Innovating with Impact Strategy. This new strategy aims to equip teams with the necessary skills, tools, and frameworks to embrace new ideas and technologies in an ethical manner.
According to the Government Communication Service, the strategy will encourage a systematic approach to innovation by identifying new ideas, testing them through robust piloting, and scaling the successful learnings across the entire service. This initiative is a crucial step in embedding a culture of innovation within the GCS.
The UK Government Communication Plan 2024-25 also promises the publication of a new Framework for Ethical Innovation, further emphasizing the importance of ethical practices in the innovation process. Additionally, the plan highlights the development of the GCS AI co-pilot, an artificial intelligence tool tailored to government communications that is expected to be rolled out this year.
The communication plan also sets out an ambitious goal for government departments to allocate up to 10% of their campaign budgets towards innovative techniques that the GCS can test. This initiative aims to mirror the behavior of leading private sector advertisers and drive innovation in government communications.
GCS chief executive Simon Baugh expressed his pride in the progress made over the past year in implementing the strategy, emphasizing the culture of testing and learning that has driven innovation across government. The success of the GCS campaigns, including the energy-efficiency campaign “It All Adds Up,” highlights the impact of innovative approaches in delivering results for the nation.
As the Government Communication Service continues to push boundaries and drive innovation, the upcoming release of the Innovating with Impact Strategy promises to transform the way civil service staff approach their work, ultimately leading to more effective and impactful communication strategies.
