World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai: China Leads Global Efforts for Inclusive AI Development

The World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai is currently underway, with a focus on the global governance of AI. Chinese Premier Li Keqiang emphasized the importance of AI as the common wealth of mankind, stating that true development occurs when everyone progresses together.

Li’s remarks come in the wake of a China-sponsored resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly, which calls for equal opportunities for developing nations to benefit from AI. The resolution also advocates for a free, open, inclusive, and non-discriminatory business environment for AI development.

China has been at the forefront of global AI governance, with initiatives such as the Global AI Governance Initiative, which aims to ensure equal rights for all countries in AI development and combat the misuse of technology by terrorists. The country is also pushing for greater representation for developing nations in global AI governance.

At the conference, Shanghai Party Secretary Chen Jining released a declaration calling for strengthened AI-related cybersecurity and global cooperation to prevent the misuse of AI by terrorists and extremist groups. The declaration emphasizes the need for international efforts to fully tap the potential of AI and ensure equal rights and opportunities for all countries in AI development.

Speakers at the conference include industry leaders such as Baidu co-founder Robin Li Yanhong and Ant Group executive chairman Eric Jing. Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning highlighted the importance of global AI governance in addressing the risks and challenges posed by AI technology while reaping its socioeconomic benefits.

Overall, the conference serves as a platform for countries to exchange insights and build consensus on the healthy, safe, and orderly development of AI. With the rapid advancement of AI technology, global cooperation and governance are essential to navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by this emerging technology.
