Intel Launches Ignite Program to Boost Innovation in Israel Startups

Intel recently unveiled its new program called Ignite with the goal of fostering innovation in technology startups. The company aims to accelerate the development of cutting-edge technologies, such as AI and autonomous systems, within an open ecosystem.

The program will kick off in Tel Aviv, Israel this year, with plans to expand to other countries in the future. Intel has emphasized that it will not seek equity or intellectual property rights from the participating companies.

Under the terms of the program, Intel will conduct a 20-week program for a select group of 10-15 Israeli startups. These companies will receive hands-on mentorship from industry experts and professionals.

Intel CEO Bob Swan expressed confidence in Israel’s expertise in AI, autonomous systems, and related technologies, making it an ideal location to launch the Ignite program.

The expansion of Intel’s footprint in Israel is expected to be a positive development. The company has a significant presence in the country, with around 12,800 employees, including those from the acquisition of Mobileye, an autonomous vehicle technology provider.

Intel’s acquisition of Mobileye for $15.3 billion has enabled the company to make strides in the autonomous car technology market. Swan recently took a ride in an autonomous vehicle being tested in Jerusalem, showcasing the company’s commitment to this sector.

Additionally, Intel is investing approximately $11 billion to upgrade a chip plant in Kiryat Gat and develop a new chip manufacturing facility in Israel. The company has received a grant of around $1 billion from the Israeli finance ministry for this project.

Despite losing a bid to acquire Mellanox, Intel remains focused on expanding its business in Israel. The company’s optimism in the country’s startup community and technical expertise is driving growth initiatives, such as the success of Mobileye contributing to first-quarter revenues.

While Intel faces competition in the semiconductor market, its strategic investments and partnerships in Israel are expected to fuel long-term growth. The company’s commitment to innovation and collaboration with startups bodes well for its future success.

In conclusion, Intel’s Ignite program in Israel reflects its dedication to fostering technological innovation and supporting the growth of startups in the region. With a strong presence and ongoing investments in Israel, Intel is poised to capitalize on the country’s thriving tech ecosystem.
