NorthWest Arkansas Community College Launches Trail Technician Program with Enrollment Open for September Start Date

NorthWest Arkansas Community College in Bentonville is paving the way for aspiring trail technicians with the launch of its new trail technician program. The 12-week program, set to begin on Sept. 13, aims to meet the increasing demand for skilled professionals in the trail industry.

Offering a comprehensive curriculum in trail construction, maintenance, and management, the program provides students with hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge of the field. With courses covering topics such as trail construction and maintenance, planning and design, heavy equipment operation, welding for trails, and small engine repair, graduates will be well-equipped to excel in the industry.

“We are thrilled to introduce this program in a format that accommodates a wider range of students,” said Lori Greminger, trail technician program director at NWACC. “Our weekend classes allow individuals to acquire valuable skills without interfering with their weekday commitments, and our partnerships with leading organizations ensure a top-notch educational experience.”

In collaboration with esteemed organizations like American Trails, the Professional Trail Builders Association, and IMBA Europe, the program promises a high-quality learning experience. Graduates will receive certificates for proficiency in trail technician and trail management, with the opportunity to pursue a technical certificate in trail construction and management upon completion of additional construction courses.

Ideal candidates for the program include current trail industry workers, aspiring trail builders, trail bosses, and dedicated trail maintenance volunteers. With a student capacity of 12 for welding classes and 24 for other classes, the program will be taught by Brett Schoffner, owner of Nomad Trails.

NWACC plans to offer classes for the program every semester, starting in September and February. The deadline to enroll in the first program sequence is Sept. 6, and prospective students can enroll online through the NWACC website.
