Lý Quốc Hùng discusses Science and Technology Innovation in Industry and Trade Sector

Lý Quốc Hùng, Director of the Department of Science and Technology at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, recently discussed the importance of science and technology innovation activities in the Industry and Trade sector. These activities are crucial for building a modern national industry and contributing to the rapid and sustainable growth of trade in Vietnam.

Over the years, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has focused on promoting science and technology innovation to enhance domestic production capacity, product competitiveness, and the overall competitiveness of Vietnamese enterprises. Through research and application of scientific and technological achievements, the sector has been able to develop and implement policies that have led to breakthrough developments in various areas of industrial production, domestic trade, import-export, and international economic integration.

Key projects such as the Industry Restructuring Project, the Export-Import Strategy, and the Domestic Market Development Strategy have been instrumental in setting directions for the sector’s growth. Additionally, research results have supported Vietnamese enterprises in participating in global markets through multilateral and bilateral free trade agreements.

The recently approved Strategy for Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) until 2030 aims to prioritize research and development activities, the application of new technologies, and digitalization in key industries. By fostering strong relationships between universities, research institutes, and enterprises, the strategy seeks to accelerate industrialization and modernization in Vietnam.

To achieve the sector’s growth objectives, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has outlined five main solution groups, including mechanisms, policies, STI management, training and human resource development, investment and finance, international cooperation, and information and communication activities. These measures aim to enhance STI’s contribution to the sector’s overall growth goals, such as increasing industrial value-added and labor productivity rates.

In restructuring STI organizations under the Ministry, the focus is on forming large-scale public organizations with strong capabilities to address core scientific and technological issues. By reducing redundancy and overlapping functions, the Ministry aims to establish a multi-disciplinary applied STI organization system by 2030, aligned with global industry and technology trends.

Overall, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is committed to leveraging science and technology innovation to drive the growth of the Industry and Trade sector and contribute to the development of a modern national industry in Vietnam.
