7-Eleven Japan and Walmart Implementing AI in In-Store Advertising and Inventory Management

7-Eleven Japan and Walmart are both stepping up their in-store game with the introduction of artificial intelligence (AI) technology to enhance customer experience and reduce waste.

7-Eleven Japan is rolling out AI-based digital ads at 500 convenience store locations, using vision detection technology from Sony Semiconductor Solutions to track customer engagement with digital signage. The system analyzes how many people stop to look at the ads and for how long, allowing for targeted placement and content adjustments to maximize impact without compromising customer privacy.

Meanwhile, Walmart is gearing up to pilot in-store AI in Canada that will help employees manage inventory more efficiently. The AI tool will provide real-time advice on everything from banana ripeness to seasonal fashion trends, empowering employees to make informed decisions on pricing, discounts, returns, or donations.

Both retailers are leveraging AI to streamline operations, reduce waste, and improve customer satisfaction. As technology continues to revolutionize the retail industry, these innovative approaches are setting the stage for a more efficient and personalized shopping experience.
