Texas A&M Innovation’s New Ventures Competition: Houston-Based Medical Device Company Takes Top Prize
Houston-based medical device company Tarus Vascular emerged victorious in Texas A&M Innovation’s 10th annual New Ventures Competition, taking home over $450,000 in prizes. The company, founded in 2022, specializes in developing minimally invasive stents to treat aortic aneurysms. CEO Matthew Kuhn, a master’s graduate in biomedical engineering from Rice University, credits the competition for honing his pitching skills and securing $1.4 million in seed funding. Other finalists, like Harmony Desalting, are also making waves in the biotech and medical tech start-up scene. Despite only receiving $8,000 for their sixth-place finish, Harmony’s innovative approach to desalination could revolutionize water purification methods. The competition serves as a platform for emerging companies to showcase their groundbreaking ideas and secure crucial funding for future development.
